Production: Closer by Carnegie Mellon University's Scotch'n'Soda Theatre, February 2010. Photo by Guillermo Gomez. Lighting Design by William Macrae. Colors used: R39, R12, R47, R66, R08.
The scene pictured is where Larry encounters Alice in a strip club. R39 and R12 are featured to convey the superficialness of the strip club, filled with lies and deceit, overtop of the anguish and betrayal felt by both Larry and Alice. On a less symbolic level, the colors follow the purple and yellow key lights often found or imagined to be in real strip clubs (through the effects are incredibly exaggerated in the production). And, on an even lower level, the colors are complementary purely to accentuate and the effect of Alice's stripping, the resultant shapes, and the sex appeal of the scene.
